You might recognize some of those names - Ola, Jessica Andersson and Andreas Johnson have all participated before! The latter(s) certainly doesn't have the word "give up" in their vocabulary, this is their FOURTH time in MF.
Jessica won as part of the duo "Fame" back in '03, since then she has been nothing but a burden. Andreas has given us two very nice songs that both fell at the finish line..and his 3rd entry with Carola is something we all want to forget. (including him)
We can also see that Linda Pritchard has been given "You're Making Me Hot Hot Hot" which Linda Bengtzing earlier was rumoured for. Was the rumour simply false or was Linda ditched for the other Linda?
For those of you who have no idea who this chick is - she participated in Swedish idol '08, but didn't get that far - much to my dismay 'cause this one can really sing, and most importantly - she's hot.
Yes, that's right! The 15 artists who will be performing in the first two semifinals was revealed today by SVT.
Semifinal 1: Örnsköldsvik, February 6th
- Jenny Silver with "A Place To Stay"
- Jessica Andersson with "Did It For Love"
- Salem al Fakir with "Keep On Walking"
- Roadsalt with "Pain Of Salvation"
- Frispråkarn with "Singel"
- Anders Ekborg with "The Saviour" (replacing disqualified entry Åt Helvete För Sent)
- Ola with "Unstoppable"
- Linda Pritchard with "You're Making Me Hot Hot Hot"
Semifinal 2: Sandviken, February 13th
- "Come To Me" (Webjoker, the artist will be revealed December 5th)
- Andra generationen + Dogge with "Hippare Hoppare"
- Anna-Maria Espinosa with "Innan Alla Ljusen Brunnit Ut"
- Erik Sade with "Manboy"
- Hanna Lindblad with "Manipulated"
- Kalle Moraeus & Orsa spelmän with "Underbart"

Hahah, no. Not really. But almost.
Apparently Serbia is heading for an internal selection next year due to the past years scandals in their national selection for Eurovision, Beovizija.
I don't have all the information on the drama but if I remember correctly there have been corrupt juries (are we surprised?) and something about someone screwing up last year and making two qualifiers not qualify. Yeah, I know, it's a bit messy.
To make it a little bit more interesting, they seem to be leaning towards sending the rock group Negative to Oslo, which would actually mean that they once again step away from their sleeping pills ballads. We'll let you know when there's more information available!

And it's this really old dude named Father Abraham? HAHAHA. OMG. I love Eurovision. He has previously written the Smurf Song (it's gonna take me hours to write this with all the laugh attacks) and holds the record for best selling Dutch composer ever, apparently. No further information has been released by the broadcaster, however, the song will be performed in Dutch. Yay for that! I'm sick and tired of English in Eurovision, countries should embrace their languages and not perform in really bad English (this is mostly aimed at Russia and Ukraine though. Belarus has done well for themselves; their performances are generally in decent English -cough-cough-since 2008-cough-cough- even if the singer doesn't speak a word of it!)
Whatever you do, do not send De Toppers again. If you thought the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was brutal, you should watch De Toppers performance. Geez. I still haven't watched the whole performance to this day because I have to stop the video about 90 seconds into it.
Anyway, good luck the Netherlands! Hopefully the JESC win has recandled the spark for you.

It would be the Danish entry this year. I liked Believe again, but O-M-G why didn't they send Sukkerchok?! The most amazing song I've ever heard. DET DET!
Ok, it's actually the second thing I'd change about ESC. First thing would be to make Macedonia win this year. I'm so completely in love with Next Time it's unreal - they deserved victory!! Or at least a qualification. Oh well, let's enjoy a sugar rush.

Because I suck (Mandy has actually tried to revive the blog! She's getting a cake later. Carrot cake. I'm pretty sure she doesn't like it, so more for me -nods-) the latest news have been ignored. GASP! I know, I know. But here's a nifty little recap of what has happened for the past week or so;
-
The Netherlands won Junior Eurovision Song Contest. It seems pretty impossible, doesn't it? A western country winning JESC which is about ten times worse than ESC in regards of neighbourvoting? Ralf won with the song Click Clack which is incredibly catchy if you ask me. 'Listen to it on YouTube five times a day for the past week' catchy. Belgium came in 4th, even though it was a hot hot hot favorite for the win (or was it? On forums it was. Apparently yodeling (how the hell to you spell that anyway?) done by a little girl is a recipe for success). Russia and Armenia came in joint second place. We're not surprised, at all. Mega big thanks for Macedonia for only giving Armenia 1 point!! It made my evening, really.
-
Belgium chose their artist. Some dude named Tom Dice (HAHAHAHA, epic name!) who's an X-factor reject who will definitely qualify to the final in Oslo because thats the jury's big task in the semi-finals, bringing back loser countries such as Belgium, Switzerland and The Netherlands to the final. Too bad Andorra wont take part, we would've seen the tiny nation take part in the final for the first time!
-
Belarus' I-have-no-idea-if-we-should-call-it-a-NF contest has continued. To be honest I have no idea what it's all about. It seems to be a way to make people feel like they're actually helping Belarus choosing an entry for ESC? Even though the president will re-do the NF if he doesn't like the winning song. You've gotta love dictators!
-
Oh, and MGP Nordic took place yesterday. Personally I didn't watch it, personally I don't care and personally I think it's a waste of money. Apparently a Swede won though, yay for that! See, this is just a warm up for Oslo next year. GOOOO DARIN!
And that's about it really, I'll do better with updates from now on. Sort of.

The MF entry "Åt Helvete För Sent" has been disqualified.
Why? Well, to make a long story short - because SVT are a-holes with bad judgement.
Apparently the songwriters and SVT strongly disagreed on which artist the song should be given to.
Songwriters wanted Sara Löfgren, SVT wanted Rikard Wolff.
“- The situation is very unfortunate, but our decision is logically simple. Melodifestivalens rules are indisputable: if you are in the competition you accept that SVT has the final say in the choice of artist. If you pull the rug out form under the artist that SVT has chosen, you no longer respect the rules you accepted when you chose to apply for this contest, says Thomas Hall, project manager of Melodifestivalen 2010.”
You can listen to "Åt Helvete För Sent" here:

Sounds perfect to me, why fix something that's not broken? Besides, the last thing MF needs is that old twat Wolff. Anyway, now we wont see either of them on stage 2010.

At least that's what the big boys say! Apparently the semi-finals will start on Friday, and that means Mandy will have to watch it and report live since I. officially. hate. Belarusian. Webstreams. Yes! I wonder if Koldun will host it this year again? I love him!
If this is the case then Eurovision season started early. Hallelujah!

Yes, you heard it. Montenegro has decided not to take part in the upcoming contest due to financial problems (read: they never qualified). Believe it or not, but I'll miss them and hopefully they'll be back in 2011.
(Does this mean that Semi 1 will start at #2 now?)

.. who had to be announced AFTER Darin. Because people will so care about him.
The second MF joker to be revealed is Salem al Fakir (It's ok - I didn't know who he was either. The only thing that rang a bell about his name was the Salem part, but I associated it with Days of our lives. Woops) with the song Keep on Walking (I'd rather call it keep on dreaming, but that's just me). As I've never heard of him before, I had to YouTube his music and well... I guess everything non super schlager after Caroline af Ugglas last year is a big step up, but ... geez. This. Is. Not. Melodifestivalen. Music. GAH! I want glitter and glamour, not some curly haired guy with a piano or whatever instrument he's playing.
Maybe I shouldn't judge too early, maybe he'll shock us on stage looking like this;

Hi Sandy!
Seriously. I cannot stop listening to Bistra voda, the bosnian song from this year. It's so freaking amazing and perfect. The singer is really hot too, daaaaaamn. If there wasnt a 21 years age different between the two of us, I'd so marry him. He'd marry me too, because he loves me.
Right Davor? You love me? I KNOW YOU DO.

...by our incredible source womenly intuition.
Both Mandy and I are convinced that Darin will be the winner of Melodifestivalen 2010, that he will win the ticket to Oslo and sing his way to victory there too. And he'll be the hottest guy in the contest next year, and we can proudly say 'he's Swedish' when girls and gays drool a whole tsunami over him.
Who cares what the song is like, we want eye candy, and our eye candy will take us all the way to Oslo. Remember where you read it first... or second. Or 125683th.

Yes, you heard me. We bring you these exclusive news from our exclusive source about this exclusive Eurovision country. No, I'm just kidding. We're not Oikotimes.
Bulgaria was the first country to announce their singer this year and we've been blessed with Miro's presence in Oslo. He's apparently a huuuuge star there (but then again, which singer isn't the biggest star in its country? The UK commentator tried to trick us into believing that every single artist in ESC 2009 was huge in the Balkans. Seriously.) but I think we all know that it's not a guarantee for the choice to be successful. Especially not when it's Bulgaria. I'm sorry, but after 2007, 2008 and 2009, I can't have an opinion about Bulgaria until they've performed in the semi-final.
But hey, I don't think it can get any worse than this year. The odds that Miro will dress up as a knight who so heroically stole Supermans cape are not too big, fortunately enough.

So guess what? The 3 hosts for Melodifestivalen 2010 has now been revelaed:
Måns "MEGA MUMS" Zelmerlöw, 23 (artist, former MF participant x2)
Christine Meltzer, 34 (comedian)
and hear this:
Ivan Drago Dolph Lundgren, 52 (actor)
Say it with us now - W T F ?
We thought Mark Levengood hosting "Fear Factor" would be more likely.
Dolph will only be present at the first semifinal in Örnsköldsvik and at the finals in Stockholm (you know because he's busy being a big-shot action star) But we are promised features of "clownery, singing and dancing" in the remaining semifinals.
We wanted to come up with something unexpected and glamorous, says Jonas Alassaad.

Ladies and gentlemen, cats and dogs, Hadise's and people-who-actually-manage-to-sing-live-while-doing-some-really-amateur-dancing-moves; the biggest pre-Eurovision party of them all, Melodifestivalen, has had their first ever publically selected song chosen and it's a song that makes Bulgaria 2009 look like a masterpiece called Come and get me now (probably refering to the last place of the heat it will take part in). This could be unfair for the other contestants since the 7 other entries in this songs heat will have an easier time getting top 5, seeing as last place is already reserved.
Mandy and Sandy think this could classify as torture, but we're not sure. We'll look into the law book tomorrow or something. Until then, we won't give you a link to the song as we're actually decent human beings (and we couldn't find the youtube link for it anyway).
